Freon Refrigerant

In 1930, the Du Pont Company developed a chemical they called Freon 12. This amazing discovery is still used as a main component in the cooling process for most air conditioners and refrigerators. Freon is by far the most commonly used refrigerant. In HVAC and refrigerator units, the Freon enters as a low temperature gas and is compressed in metal coils. The “magic” of Freon is that it gets cold when compressed. It is the air blowing over the cold coils that creates the cooler air. Freon is stable, colorless, nontoxic, noncorrosive, nonflammable, and almost odorless.

If an air conditioner stops working efficiently, it may be because the Freon or other refrigerant needs to be replaced. Rainforest Plumbing & Air technicians are trained to replace Freon and service your air conditioning unit. Give us a call today to schedule AC service in Arizona!

what is a refrigerant?

A refrigerant is any substance that is used in the process of artificial cooling in what is known as the heat cycle. In most cases, refrigerant is used as a main cooling component in Arizona refrigerators and air conditioning units.

what is freon?

In Arizona Freon is perhaps the most popular refrigerant on the market. However, it is not the only refrigerant out there. If your Air Conditioner is blowing warm air, it could be a simple Freon leak. In this case, our technician can locate and repair the leak and re-charge your system with Freon in no time. Your AC system will be blowing cold air again before you know it!

Refrigerant leaks must be handled under specific guidelines in order to preserve and protect our environment from potentially harmful gas emissions. Rainforest Plumbing & Air has technicians on staff that are trained and equipped to manage all types of refrigerant leaks whether you have an ammonia or Freon-based system.

why is refrigerant leak detection so important?

Refrigerant leak detection in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems is extremely difficult task for even for an experienced service technician. The leak could be well hidden from view in tubing, a system component, or in an operating or safety control switch. Refrigerant leak detection takes on great urgency, because if a leak is left unfixed, gases that are harmful to the environment are emitted.. Government rules no longer give service technicians the option of adding refrigerant when the system is low due to a leak. Now the leak be located and fixed within a specified period of time. Ony then can your Arizona AC system be re-charged with freon.

how does rainforest find freon or refrigerant leaks?

There are many types of testing equipment that can be used in refrigerant leak detection. Some of it is automated, while other methods exist to perform on-site testing. To find the leak, our service technicians will determine the best method to use. We can detect a AC refrigerant leak using a soap solution, a halide torch, dye interception, isolation of a component from the system, or pressurizing the system with dry nitrogen gas.

Once the leak is controlled and the refrigerant is managed, Rainforest will complete all necessary repairs, recharge your system with refrigerant, and get your AC system running smoothly, delivering comfortable air throughout your space. Give us a call today to schedule service!
